The Hive Community Choir

The Hive Community Choir takes place on Wednesdays from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the church hall of St John the Evangelist, Upper Norwood (Sylvan Road, SE19 2RX). The choir is free to attend and welcomes anyone who loves to sing.  The choir is facilitated by Katie Rose and funded by the One Croydon Alliance.

The Hive Community Choir is part of St John’s outreach service The Hive, a get-together for vulnerable people in the community. Run by a group of dedicated volunteers, Hive members not only get a warm meal and the chance to connect with others, but can also receive pastoral care and support during challenging situations.

Apart from giving people a safe space to express themselves musically, the Hive Community Choir is very much a place for people to connect and thus reduces social isolation. Furthermore, singing has been shown to have a host of wellbeing benefits – including stress reduction, mood uplift and deeper breathing.  The choir enables vulnerable members of society to access these benefits, whilst having fun singing and socialising in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Songs are often chosen by the choir members and accompanied by our resident pianist.
