Croydon Integrated Psychological Therapies Service (CIPTS)

The Psychological Therapy Service (Croydon) is a part of the services provided by the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and is made up of clinicians who are experienced in a range of psychological interventions that can be used to help people with emotional and behavioural problems. Typically these problems will be of moderate to severe complexity and severity, and often where the individual’s mental health problems are long-standing or recurrent, or where there are multiple difficulties impacting on the individual at the same time.

The CIPTS service is based at Jeanette Wallace House but appointments can be offered at other bases nearer to an individual's home where possible. Members of the CIPTS team come from a range of professional backgrounds which currently includes Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists and Psychotherapists. This varied membership enables the service to offer a wide range of different psychological approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Every effort is made to match the therapy that is offered to the needs of each individual referred to the service, through an initial assessment process, following a referral by the individual’s GP or, more commonly, from the individual’s Community Mental Health Team.

CIPTS is a Secondary Care service for adults only, and only accepts referrals where the individual resides in Croydon or has a Croydon GP, and where the mental health problems are of at least a moderate level of severity and complexity. Individuals who have psychosis, however, are seen by specialist clinicians in one of the appropriate Community Mental Health Team. There is also a separate primary care based psychological therapy service currently provided by the Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service that is based at The Bethlem Hospital; this service can be contacted on 0203 228 4040.
