Croydon Association for Pastoral Care in Mental Health (APCMH)

Croydon APCMH is affiliated to the National APCMH which was created in 1986.

Whilst founded by members of the Christian community, we are an open organisation and actively encourage participation of members of all faith communities and also those of no religious commitment.

We welcome all who support our ethos of personal individual integrity.

The group runs weekly Drop-Ins:

• The Rainbow meets Monday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. Address - South Croydon Centre, Ledbury Road, South Croydon.
• The Open Door meets Friday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. Address - Norbury Methodist Church, 2a Pollards Hill North, Norbury, London, SW16 4NL.
• The Bridge meets on Sunday afternoons from 12pm to 2.30pm. Address - St. Mildred's Community Centre, Bingham Road (corner of Sefton Road), Addiscombe, CR0 7EB.
• The Women's Drop-In meets over lunch on Tuesdays from 12pm to 2pm. Address - St. Mildred's Community Centre, Bingham Road (corner of Sefton Road), Addiscombe, CR0 7EB.

Creative Sessions
In addition the following creative sessions are run at St. Mildred's Community  Centre, Bingham Road (corner of Sefton Road), Addiscombe:

Tuesdays
• Creative writing between 2.15pm-4.15pm - Write a short story, a poem or even your memoirs. Come along, share with others and enjoy.

Fridays
• Art Group between 2pm-4pm - We encourage our members to express themselves through drawing, painting, collages - in fact any way they wish. All materials are provided, all you need to bring is your imagination!

Services providing advice and information relating to all aspects of mental health.
This is the term used to describe experiences such as chronic fear, tension and panic attacks. Some people have an overwhelming feeling of dread that prevents them getting on with everyday life. Sleepless nights and recurring thoughts are common, as well as nausea, palpitations, dizziness and difficulty in breathing. Anxiety is the most common mental health problem people experience.
Art therapy offers an opportunity to explore intense or painful thoughts and feelings in a supportive environment. It involves using a wide variety of art materials to create a visual representation of thought and feelings. Art Therapy services can be provided on an individual or group basis.
Services related to centres where members can 'drop-in' informally to access a range of services and resources.

Classified as a type of affective disorder or mood disorder that goes beyond the day's ordinary ups and downs. Manic depression is characterized by periodic episodes of extreme elation, elevated mood, or irritability (also called mania) countered by periodic, classic depressive symptoms.
OCD is a problem characterised by obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviour. The behaviour can take various forms such as cleaning or checking rituals in which the person will repeatedly clean themselves or their house or check, for example, that doors are locked and/or electrical sockets are turned off. Dermatological problems are common in people who repeatedly wash their hands. People with OCD can be treated using cognitive behavioural treatment and/or antidepressants.
This is a psychotic disorder marked by delusions, hallucinations, disordered thinking and speech, inappropriate emotions and/or lack of emotions. It is characterised by serious disturbances of thought and perception which cannot be attributed to brain damage.
These organisations provide user groups which enable service users to contribute to the development of the services provided.
An educational, classroom-type session in which handouts and workbooks are often used. A workshop may last from one hour to many days.
These Organisations offer writing groups for creative or therapeutic purposes.
